Healthy Lifestyles
The Healthy Lifestyles program brings together nutrition, fresh food and physical fitness and how it contributes to each individual’s ability to be successful. Healthy living allows people to reach their full potential.
Core areas of study include:
- Cooking. Discovering healthy options – and substitutes – for unhealthy options is the key to learning out to eat healthy. We teach youth how to include daily nutrients and vitamins in their diets.
- Gardening. If you can’t buy it, grow it. There are huge savings to growing your own produce. Saving money, self-sustainability and knowledge of exactly what you’re consuming are just a few that come to mind. We help teens learn how to grow a successful garden and also how to incorporate home grown produce into a meal and how to save food for the months ahead through canning vegetables.
- Fitness. A big part of staying healthy is staying active. We mentor kids as they learn how much physical activity is needed each week. Different fitness activities are taught. At the same time we remind kids that the energy used during a workout and how to balance with proper nutrition.
Speakers are brought in throughout the programs to keep the teens engaged and active. Collegiate athletes share their knowledge of how exercise and nutrition work hand in hand with being successful and healthy.
